Origin of Beautiful Lettering

My father was always a luxurious lover of good food and magazines. He is currently a graphic designer by profession, and had an immense hand in his way of letters.

It all started from curiosity, when a class four drawing book of mine was found to have impeccable lettering. I had stared and could not comprehend how.

I learned that the he had been doing it since his sophomore years. His legacy endured even in an old drawing which my drawing sir had bought me to sketch. I was fascinated by the fact of geometry and the precision of those letters.

As a class 4 lad , I with my limited understanding of those letters wanted to "sketch" them. I looked at the newspaper typography closely and tried to figure it out. It was a new thing, since there was a new language of strokes that were waiting to be decoded. I had practiced and did some sketching myself, and finally had expressed my observations on paper and a class iv transparent folder. (I remember that it was Ayesha ma'ams days, and how obsessed she was with the english language. Mad respect)

I think it was around that time that mom had actually recognised my work. Relative to other parts of my artistry, lettering was the only art form that experienced the least scrutiny. People talked about it, and thus I really continued in the journey.

Every class copy came embellished with a new style of lettering. It was a cortisol release, too- letters emerging from the corners and rough work areas of a maths copy. Just like Sarojini Naidu had engraved a poem while she was bored with algebra, lettering was my only escape- I was pressurised with just studying, and I did not even do anything else during my school years other than studying.

Slowly I got bored with the newspaper typeface. The flow of the ink continued. Stress on studies rose and obsession overflowed. Slowly I developed new letters out of the mutations. I stripped off excess things and came with some architectural and neat typefaces, while I exagerrated decorations in others. Each time I did, the letter meutations and decorations meant a new design of the 26 letters. The styles expanded.

Slowly but surely, all what accumulated was a new unique and authentic way of sketcking letters. It got specialised, convoluted and fluid. It expanded in all directions. By 2023, I had enough styles to have a lore around it. I freezed my typefaces because I had achieved all and dedicated some time in maintaining them. In the meantime, my handwriting became a distinct one as speed as efficiency became pivotal. They drifted, until everything cemented on prettiness, convenience and speed. The latest style worships fluidity in a huge respect. The newest style can be compared to calligraffiti.

Its a journey, and un those 11 years I couldn't grasp when his taste transcended to my obsession and studying of letters.
