Video Editor - Bhoy

This is my first project professionally as a video editor of something like this. This is a major work of this scale!

This is a direct follow up from my intership days that I had got in August the previous year. It is definitely a huge deal for me for my hardwork getting structurally represented before people.

This was a connection Adrita gave me while we were busy in a Bookfair evening. I remember that it was a heavy day of loneliness, when we had a casual chit-chat with Agniva. As curious as I was , coupled with Adrita's certain way of polishing over her connections, my mind was already contextualised about Jobless Bongs and their work, Carpe Diem's screening at Nandan. I was especially keen in meeting a group who had screened a picture somewhere.

A meeting and a surprise online encounter with Samriddha (Ananya aunty's son), a PR CV, and a slight showcasing of what I'm good at landed me as a video editor.

I was damn aware of helping too much, so from day one I only put myself up for the video editing role only. The script reading session made me meeting people- an iphone savvy PR head, another "art director", two music making lads of 11th standard, the actors (Swapnadeep is fine shyt), producer(s?), a reserved asst. Director, and in the midst of the "chander haat" Samriddha coordinating people as more people came along. I came and sat in the midst of the constellation. The veteran and the child cast came a bit late late, followed by Saptarshi's emergence, eventually fitting himself up inside the khubri beside me. The script reading started while I was lost in dialogues and the first alap of the concept with me.

I was clearly preserving myself in the energy, although already present and confident for the next negotiation and a conversation about my understanding of the craft I did with the art director. Rather blandly, I challenged her with some concepts. We had disagreements and also we had some distinctive attention there in the interval.

After the shoot taking 3-4 days, I got the footage and worked ruthlessly and with enough professional ways to finish it. I had somehow miscalculated the actual time needed to finish.

There was zero delays for the rough cut. The rough cut was ready with four, 4 hour sessions each. The director, asst. director and Samriddha had come on the first day of starting, while in the subsequent days only Agniva and Tapadeep( dir. and asst. dir.) came to direct. I was a bit amazed by the confidence I had during the editing sessions, editing the footage with the pure knowledge of intuition, rhythm and "what feels right". There were creative solutions, too.

The sound editing, foley, and dubbing was the painful process. The actors had honed their creativity in "dubbing" although Agnivas QC was high enough. I was also quite strict on my convenience. And as some wise one would've said—editors are there to fix things. Another four hours multiplied by seven sessions under the hood. And there was final polishing+rendering of another 3 -4 sessions of 4+ hours each. Oh yes, out of these sessions, two sessions had me comfortable, the colorist used my pc for the colors+graphics. The rendering took a while, though.
