Editor of Uttoron Vol1
This is the cover image of the famous magazine Uttoron that Scriptorium held its frustration to put together:
part 1
It was a hotchpotch of a lot of people involved in the construction phase of the magazine, and also due to the fact that it was our first.
The magazine submissions had been done with incomplete sections where nobody wrote, which were ultimately and gruelly finished by Chandrima, Suchana and Anirban Da. The finishing of the write-ups were tough in itself.
Then came the editing of the magazine. I was present during the first part of editing in the group. I knew that I could finish it all by myself, having the time and the stamina along with a vision for it. I still held back even if I had told Chandrima about my wish to edit the magazine. I held myself back for important reasons: 1. When I do something, I end up doing 95% of it 2. I didn't want to invest that much time into it bcz I was already busy on building my own routine and stuffs for KRCNVS 3. Editing all those many pages was tiring and boring asf 4. The admins felt guarded, authoritative and hostile enough to doubt me.
The one-month observation made me increasingly restless to conquer the whole of editing.
I copied that project, pasted and started editing. I ruthlessly judged the layout and changed the background. I took one part of a day for myself.
I think I approached using the backdoor to Suchana, bcz she would atleast logically look and Chandrima would dismiss it. I just remember their call, them being stunned and my preparedness of explaining the why to the how. Yes they tried a bit of negotiation for adjustments, but I can't forget the fact of their surprise.
I'm happy that the final result had quite the quality that I tried to deliver, and the absolute way I caught their attention.
part 2
Being actively in the group, I now prioritised the heavy, tedious execution of the magazine, with other notable people like Suraj, Mrinmoy in the rescue for the immediate photos and document outlines. They were quite useful, although I think Mrinmoy talked a lot than working.
Mrinmoy and me single handedly did a lot to paste and advance the speed of the magazine, only getting bogged down and irritated by Chandrima and Suchanas rampant indecisiveness. Once I had in 2 days finished a good magazine layout for two sections of the magazine, only to be softy criticmqued for the amount of the innovative designs I'd made. After that checkup, we blandly did a few more pages swiftly. We onboarded the night from 11 pm, reaching out for 1 AM and perhaps 3 AM on some days. Although it was unproductive, it was thrilling to participate.
The last week was hugely chaotic, from finding the printing dealers to coaxing the principal and SDR to provide just a preface welcome note. There was a lot of problems because Ecstasy was also about to happen , and there was the added pressure of handling the club events. There was also a delay in delivering just a cooking recipe by Atrayee ma'am.
An important ruckus was created around the unprecedented printing of the magazine since I took the responsibility for printing it from my father's printing business. It was a ruckus. His ego glaringly showed up on the magazine as if it were a child's craft work; also maybe because we had age differences. It was lowkey disgusting to deal with the inefficiency and the pride he put up, and U could see that only he gets to be accountable for the emotional mess that he created. And also, on the other end, you have Chandrima asking for a "refund". No wonder why I hate a scene.
Nevertheless, the magazine was delivered with a huge printing mistake from Baba's part. I got the defected magazine instead. But its fine after all this uguess, I just wanted a printed copy of the magazine.
